This full day tour will see you get to know the city of Salzburg, and bag an eyeful of Austria’s alpine lakes in all their glory. Start with a visit to Mondsee, AKA Moon Lake, in the country’s own Lake District, Salzkammergut. Here, a bright-blue lake is skirted by an ever-so-pretty village. You’ll have an hour to look around. It’s then 45 minutes’ drive to Salzburg. This charming Austrian city is famous as the birthplace of the classical composer Mozart, and its Altstadt – old town – is one of the largest UNESCO World Heritage sites by area. You’ll get to grips with the picture-perfect city on a walking tour, before stopping for lunch. Then, you’ve got an hour of free time before a two-hour bus journey back to Linz. Use this time to spy locations from The Sound of Music, which was filmed around here.
