Um pouco da história
Existem muitas histórias históricas surpreendentes e características fascinantes da Torre de Londres, mas uma das mais coloridas tem que ser sobre os homens que você vê em pé ao redor em bizarros trajes vermelhos. Eles são oficialmente chamados de Yeoman Warders, mas toda a Inglaterra os conhecem como "Beefeaters".
Hoje em dia, esses homens (e mulheres) oferecem visitas guiadas e contos interessantes sobre a história da Torre, mas eles possuem uma história muito mais antiga. Uma vez parte da guarda real (desde 1509), eles desfrutavam de uma posição de poder e o direito de comer tanta carne quanto eles queriam diretamente da mesa do rei. Naquela época, eles eram conhecidos pelo combate e a embriaguez, e teriam matado sem piedade qualquer visitante inesperado.
