You'll get to know the rugged Gallura region of northern Sardinia on this jam-packed tour. Journey through the heart of the island to find natural beauty, cultural heritage and Sardinian traditions. Discover granite villages, one of the world's oldest trees and the ancient ruins at Nuraghe Majori. We start our tour in Aggius, a village known for its granite buildings and dramatic setting. You'll take a look at the Ethnographic Museum of Rural Life before heading to our next stop – the Nuraghe Majori, a 3,500-year-old fortress that's a symbol of the evolution of the Nuragic civilization. It's a lovely spot thanks to the natural scenery that surrounds it, including woodland of cork oaks, which are typical of Sardinia, and a carpet of cyclamen and orchids.
In Tempio Pausania, known as the ‘city of stone', you'll have some free time to wander around. The town is nearly as famous for its wines – vermentino, karana and moscato – as it is for producing cork and its February carnival, which attracts 100,000 visitors every year. Finally, we'll visit the ancient Olive Trees of Luras, where you can admire some of the world's oldest trees. The star is s'Ozzastru, one of Italy's most significant natural monuments, estimated to be between 3,000 and 4,000 years old.
