The Tabernas desert is considered one of the only true desert in Europe. 12.000 hectares protected enclosing a sedimentary eroded landscape, with average annual sunshine about more than 3,000 hours and below 250 mm rainfall per year. When Mediterranean’s sea covered the area of Tabernas and after millions of years to more than 500 meters depth, in times when the coastline was located at the foot of the Sierra de Los Filabres, several tectonic movements caused the gradual lifting of the sedimentary basin, settling the current landscape by erosion and over time.
