It’s hard to resist a glimpse of Michelangelo’s David – the gem of Italian sculptures – at the Accademia Gallery. In small groups, you'll get to skip the line and visit the impressive collection of Renaissance fine art, statues and more. Elena, one of our local guides, says, 'Delve beyond the details of unfinished sculptures and Renaissance art of the gallery. You’ll get a glimpse into the lives of Florence’s Medici family too.'
Explore the gallery’s seven halls. Marvel at paintings, frescos and altarpieces in the Hall of the Colossus and learn why Michelangelo’s unfinished statues in the Hall of Prisoners still spark curiosity today. The Tribune is where the gallery’s star statue can be found. The colossal statue of David packs a punch, created by 26-year-old Michelangelo from a solid piece of marble. ‘It’s a revolutionary interpretation of David before the act of killing Goliath’, says Elena.
The Florentine Gothic contains 13th and 14th-century Giottesque works. It’s a peaceful setting with lots of religious works and lots of shiny gold. Step inside the Museum of Musical Instruments to explore an elegant collection of string and wind instruments including a one-of-a-kind Stradivari viola, decorated with the Medici family crest.
