What to expect
Miri is a well-known city in Sarawak which is famed for being the location of Malaysia's first Oil Well that was discovered in the year 1910. Aside from the Oil Well, there are plenty of important landmarks found in Miri that contribute to the history of the city.

Stop by the Handicraft Heritage Centre to purchase some memorable souvenirs for your trip to Miri. Next, visit the Tua Pek Kong Temple, whereby according to legend, work started in the temple in 1913, in order to give thanks to the deity for helping to end a mysterious epidemic. Another attraction of Miri would be Tamu Khas, whereby you can experience a local native market and purchase some local tropical fruits, and Sau Ching Tian Temple, which is one of the largest Taoist temple in Southeast Asia.

Further down the coast towards Bekenu, are a number of attractive casuarina-fringed beaches, Bungai Beach and Peliau Beach. Tusan Beach has a smooth sandy beach, coral reefs, several cliffsides and a defining feature; a large cliff with a natural arch eroded through it. Ancient fossils are known to be found in this area, and natural rock layers on the cliffside make it a geologists playground.
