What to expect

Join a private guided tour in Azov, a city with a thousand-year history. Azov is one of the most ancient cities of the Rostov region, founded in 1067. Find out how the city came to exist by visiting various museums, monuments and strolling through the city.

You'll visit Azov Museum, one of the largest museums in Southern Russia. See its main exhibition with a large collection, including paleontological, rare and impressive exhibits, The museum has 22 showrooms, and the collection contains the skeletons of prehistoric animals about 8 million years old. The city council, the Bolshevik council and the German commandant's office used to meet here in the museum building.

You'll then be taken to the Powder Cellar Museum, accompanied by a fascinating story of the guide, here you can see a diorama that captures the seizure of the Azov fortress by Emperor Peter I's troops. This is the only surviving of the Azov fortress's four Powder Cellars. It holds 60 tons of gunpowder and was built to survive against a direct hit from a projectile by making the width of the walls one and a half meters thick.

Admire the Rampart of the Azov fortress with a magnificent view of the Don River delta. You'll get to know many historical facts about the fortress such as it was destroyed in the 18th century; it was the northern port of the Ottoman Empire and it was here, where there was a confrontation between 5 thousand Cossacks and 100 thousand Turkish troops.
