The excursion begins visiting the towns that are in the Valley of Lerma passing through Cerrillos, La Merced, El Carril, and Chicoana. After 40 km, you will arrive at the Quebrada de Escoipe, where you have the chance to appreciate singular landscapes in terms of colors and geological formations of the pre-Andean orogeny.
Through Los Torreones and El Maray (1800 m), the ascent to Piedra del Molino (3348 m) begins in only 22 km. Through the Cuesta del Obispo the landscape transmutes and on the way you reach the Cardones National Park only high altitude park in Argentina. The itinerary includes different stops for taking pictures such as in Mal Cante, Cuesta del Obispo, Valle Encantado, Piedra del Molino, and Recta Tin Tin. The trip continues through a desert area.
Towards noon, you reached the town of Cachi, located in the northern area of the Calchaquí Valley. It has a strong colonial imprint that is evident in its architecture. Here you can appreciate the Calchaquí culture, its customs, and traditions. Visit its archaeological museum (ticket not included), and have a lunch break (not included). In the afternoon you will return to Salta after visiting the town of Chicoana.
