During your day tour of Saint Petersburg you will be able to see all the top highlights of the city, learn to appreciate the palaces, squares and cathedrals with the assistance of you local tour guide and enjoy a break for lunch before exploring the Hermitage. Your tour will begin with a trip to Nevsky Prospect, the main avenue of the city, full of shops, the best restaurants, churches and majestic palaces. You will stop at the Armenian Church from the early classical period before visiting Kazan Cathedral. Here you will learn about the internal structure of the Russian Church. Followed by the Grand hotel Europe one of the best hotels in Petersburg, which is surrounded by magnificent palaces still in use today along with museums, theaters and concert halls.
You will have entrance tickets to the Savior on Spilled Blood, the church built on the site of the assassination of the Russian Emperor Alexander II, by demand of his son. The church was built in the neo-russian style, with gilded and colored domes. Inside admire the rich decoration of mosaic covered the walls. Walking along small pedestrian streets, you will head to the heart of the city, the Palace Square, to view the unique Hermitage Museum and witness a true masterpiece of Russian baroque style. In the center of the square you will find the Alexander column where your tour will break for lunch or cup of coffee for an hour and a half.
Following lunch your tour will exclusively focus on the Hermitage museum. You will spend the next three hours exploring the former residence of the Russian emperors, once their Winter Palace, and now known as the second largest museum in the world. The Hermitage features six buildings, only five open to the public, connecting inside. Here you will see their vast collection including over three million pieces from paintings, sculptures and medals.
