Enjoy snowshoeing on the backcountry trails, walk on a frozen lake, explore the medieval Island Castle and then warm up with hot tea and traditional pie. This is a great adventure if you are looking for a winter activity combined with the sightseeing.
After hotel pick up and meeting your guide, you will head towards Trakai - a small town with about 5000 residents. Once a significant and powerful town, Trakai is located next to Vilnius. Approximately 15-miles (about 25-km) outside of the city you will be surrounded by several beautiful lakes, woods and hilly landscapes. It's main attraction is the Island castle finished in the early 15th Century by Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytautas.
The snowshoe hike starts in Varnikai forest and you can explore a true winter wonderland while walking on the natural trails. Pass the idyllic village of Varnikai before you reach the lakes. Walk on ice to the castle (walking on ice - subject of change if the ice is not thick enough) where you will learn about the locations medieval history from your guide.
Finish your tour with hot tea and traditional Karaim pie at a winter picnic before going back to Vilnius.
