Welcome to El-Alamein! This modest coastal town, located about 100 km West of Alexandria, was once the theatre of two major battles between the British and the Axis forces in 1942. The city was extremely important, strategically speaking, as it was flanked on the south by the impassable Qattara Depression, making it easy to defend and control, keeping a foothold for the invaluable Suez Canal.
