The Schaezlerpalais was formerly the city palace of the banker Benedikt Adam Freiherr von Liebert. In 1763 Benedikt bought a patrician building in a central location of Augsburg and had built there a modern rococo palace, which became one of the most magnificent city palaces in Germany. Now you can find there the German Baroque Gallery, which collects paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. Karl and Magdalene Haberstock foundation offers paintings by important baroque artists. In the State Gallery, you can admire a famous Fugger portrait by Albrecht Dürer. Visit also the gilded mirrored ballroom that has survived intact and was inaugurated by Austrian Archduchess Maria Antonia.

Your guide will introduce you to a unique collection of outstanding works of goldsmithing, bronze art, and other objects from the time when Augsburg was an imperial city and Germany’s art metropolis.

You can explore more by joining a 4-hour option. See the picturesque old homes at the Fuggerei, the oldest social housing complex in the world, which is still in use. It’s home to about 150 people and was founded by one of the richest families in the world – the Fugger family.
