What to expect

The History Museum of Catalonia was opened in 1996 by the Generalitat and it is situated in the antique Magatzems Generals de Comerç (MGC) or Palau de Mar, the only preserved building from the old industrial port in Barcelona. Its contemporary architecture can be appreciated in all the building as well as the terrace, where you can enjoy an amazing panoramic view of Barcelona.

The museum offers a variety of temporary and permanent exhibitions related to Catalonia's history as well as many organised activities such as puppet shows or plays for families, kids and schools. They also arrange seminars and educational activities and there is a Mediterranean cuisine restaurant on the top floor.

The museum offers a free guided tour through the permanent exhibition about Catalonia's history every Sunday and holiday days, which takes 1 hour and 30 minutes.
