Founded in 1070, the Orval Abbey is a gem of religious history and architecture.
Follow an interpretation circuit of the archeological site that will help you get a better understanding of the different monastic facilities, or take part in guided tours (only in French and Dutch, see below for availability). Along the way, discover the pharmaceutical Museum and its the medicinal herbs garden and the Cistercian scriptorium, where you'll discover the history of the monastery and the life of the monastic community today through video animations. Visit the monastic Museum housed in the foundations of the 18th century buildings, where animated models will give you a comprehensive overview of the architecture of the abbey over the centuries.
Don't forget to stop by the gift shop, where you'll be able to purchase local trappist beer and cheese - including cheese made with beer! - among various souvenirs and a bookshop stocked with religious books and novelties.
