Explore Dracula's Castle in a day trip from Bucharest. Your tour will start at 8:00 AM when our Italian-speaking guide will pick you up from your hotel. Your first destination is Sinaia, a small mountain resort in the Carpathian Mountains, and in order to reach it, you will take a road trip through Romania’s most beloved destination for winter sports lovers, Prahova Valley. Once in Sinaia, we will visit Pele? Castle, a castle that served as a summer residence for the Romanian Royal Family.
Next, we will visit the remarkable Bran Castle, one of the most famous castles in the world, also known as Dracula’s Castle. While touring Bran Castle, our professional guide will help you discover the Legend of Dracula and find out everything about the connection between this castle and the infamous Vlad the Impaler.
Your private day tour from Bucharest continues with the medieval city of Bra?ov, located near Bran Castle. Brasov was founded by the Teutonic Knights in 1211 and it exudes a distinct medieval ambiance. Walking through the Council Square, we will reach the Old Town Hall situated right in the center, and afterward, we will visit the Black Church, the biggest religious building of its kind from Vienna to Istanbul.
The castle was built in the 19th century following the specifications of King Carol I, and it served as the summer residence for the Romanian Royal Family. Its architecture combines the German and Italian Neo-Renaissance styles, and its beautiful 160 rooms were each designed to reflect the architectural style of various European countries. The estate was used as a private retreat for statesmen from the entire world. Among the personalities that visited the Peles Castle are the American president Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and PLO leader Yasser Arafat.
Dracula’s Castle (Bran Castle)
The castle, set atop a 60-meter cliff, was built in the 13th century and it owes its fame to the myth created around Bram Stoker’s character, Count Dracula, hence the name of Dracula’s Castle. The rooms of the castle are connected through narrow stairways and underground passages which contribute to the eerie atmosphere of the castle.
Your tour of Dracula’s Castle is standard.
Fun fact: Vlad the Impaler had almost nothing to do with Bran Castle, and there is no record of him ever visiting it.
The Black Church
This Gothic-style church set in heart of Brasov has a troubling history: it was built on the site of an old church which was destroyed by the Mongol invasions in 1242. In the 17th century, the church was stoked again by disaster in the form of the “Great Fire” which destroyed the city along with the church. The walls of the sanctuary turned black and it was given its current name.
