Venture into the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve in Chiapas, Mexico. El Triunfo is a UNESCO and federally protected biosphere, containing some of the most biologically diverse flora and fauna in Mexico, as well as large communities of coffee growers.Your tour will take you to the ecological reserve Arroyo Negro, or Black Creek, located within the biosphere, which is dedicated to the conservation of nature and sustainable tourism. Witness the amazing animals, from the tapir to the spider monkey to the endemic Quetzal bird, the natural tropical beauty of El Triunfo, and the work being done by Arroyo Negro to protect it, firsthand on this immersive three-day tour. Day 1:The action begins right away with a hike to the Waterfall Trail. Observe the migratory eagles overhead and gain an introductory understanding of the flora and fauna of the region. Reward yourself with a delicious meal made by a local family with produce fresh from their garden. Enjoy a cup of coffee made from beans grown just around the corner. Walk to the coffee plantations and learn about the process of growing and harvesting coffee. At night, snack on some local artisanal bread while you listen to a talk on the vast biodiversity of the reserve (El Triunfo boasts 80 endangered bird species!) and the work being done by Arroyo Negro, such as reintroducing the once-extinct green macaw. Day 2:After another family-style meal, take a leisurely hike for 3-4 hours on the Pava Cojolita Path. The hike takes you around the edge of a coffee plantation and into a forest of pines, oak trees, and the endangered camidora palms. Enjoy lunch prepared with fresh local ingredients, followed by another walk along the river. Watch for wildlife or cool down with a dip in the water. That evening, observe the amphibians and reptiles along the banks of the coffee plantations, where your guide will educate you on the species. Day 3:Begin your final day with a breakfast of fruits and regional produce from the coffee farms. Take in a farewell talk about the organization and the biosphere. Transfer back to Tuxtla Gutierrez, feeling rejuvenated from the nature and confident that you are supporting the continuation of the endangered species and the biosphere.
