This journey will give you the chance to visit some of Romania’s most interesting and mysterious monuments. Travel back over two thousand years in time, to discover the ancient civilization of the Dacians on a full-day trip with transportation from Cluj.
Enter the main gate to explore the complex fortification system that was built around the capital city, Sarmizegetusa. Walk next to the old paved road to reach the center of the fortification where you can see the well-conserved ruins of a solar calendar, religious temples and of other administrative and private buildings. Departing from the Sacred Mountain, you will hike back to the car and drive to the next destination.
In the afternoon travel the oldest and most bizarre churches in the country situated in Densus, close to the antique Dacian and Roman settlements. Learn why the material used to build this church came from antique pagan temples and see the old Roman (marble/stone) gods standing right next to Christian icons and frescoes.
On your return to Cluj you will admire the scenery driving through Sebes and Alba Iulia.
