Yatagala TempleStarting at 8am, explore Yatagala Raja Maha Viharaya, the oldest temple in the Galle District of the beautiful Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Discover the 2300 year old Buddhist place of worship and learn about the history of the Buddhist education system for the monks that reside in the temple. The Curd, The Paddy, The Chenas and Semi-urban lifestyleAt 9:30 am, you will explore the beautiful Meepawala/Holuwagoda area of Sri Lanka where lifestyle practices are largely based around agriculture. Experience Sri Lankan agricultural tradition through visits to rice paddy fields, ‘Chenas', and vegetable beds. Learn about the various cultivation techniques used in paddy and vegetable cultivation alongside Sri Lankan farmers. Have the opportunity to learn about and taste Curd, traditional Sri Lankan yogurt, as well as purchase locally farmed vegetables for the cooking activity to follow.The Sri Lankan KitchenAt 11:30 am, immerse yourself in a traditional Sri Lankan culinary experience and prepare your own lunch using fresh, local ingredients along the way! Learn about the cooking culture and household customs of Sri Lanka through one-on-one conversations with locals as you craft a typical lunch together. Finish off your meal and enriching conversations with a unique Sri Lankan dessert.Gin River Safari Starting at 1:30pm, you will experience the lifeline of the Galle district, which is almost 120 km long, and serves as a homeground for the region's diverse array of flora and fauna. Discover the beauty of the Gin River without causing any damage to its aquatic life by forgoing engine-driven motor boats in favor of authentic, hand-oared canoes. Learn about Sri Lankan river lifestyle, see mangrove plantations in action, and bear witness to traditional stick fishing techniques! If you're interested in the true river experience (and an arm workout), you can even paddle the boats yourself while sipping on refreshing mangrove apple juice. Lifejackets are provided.The Rumassala Expedition At 4:00pm, enjoy panoramic views as you hike up Rumassala hill and visit the home of a village elder, learning about the special geography and geology of Rumassala along the way. Immerse yourself in Sri Lankan tradition gain knowledge about the important practices of Buddhism as you visit Theravada temple. End your scenic day watching the sunset from the Peace Pagoda and exploring the temple of Mahayana Tradition. For an additional cost, you can even snorkel and camp in the breathtaking Roomassala region connecting yourself further with Sri Lankan nature. The tour price includes: recyclable drinking water bottles, locally-manufactured cloth bags for shopping and carrying, access to a kitchen facility to prepare a fertilizer-free, organic Sri Lankan Lunch, refreshments, transportation to and from all activities, and a token of appreciation for completing an eco-impact experience.
