Immerse yourselves in the atmosphere of Istanbul, discovering all its hidden treasures including local markets, bazaars, and backstreets and seeing it from a true local’s perspective! This experience is part of STEP, a selection of walking tours designed as a way to discover a destination in more depth, finding hidden gems, meeting the locals and exploring off the beaten path.
On the day of the tour, you will meet your local guide at the chosen time by the Beyazid Grand Bazaar Tram Station security kiosk, unless you have opted for a pick-up service. Together with your guide, you’ll walk around Beyazid Square where the old Ottoman book bazaar of Istanbul is located. Listen to stories about Turkish history and learn as your guide tells you about the culture and unique architecture of Istanbul. You’ll then walk down to the Tahtakale, a popular shopping area, until you reach the 16th-century Rüstem Pasha Mosque. Marvel at the grandeur of the Mosque which was designed by the Ottoman imperial architect Mimar Sinan for the grand vizier Rustem Pasha, and is famous for its Iznik tiles.
There will be a short ferry ride to Kadikoy, a largely residential area in the Asian side of Istanbul. Here you will get to see how the local people live and visit Kadikoy's famous fish market. Following your walk and a quick coffee break at a Turkish coffee stop, you will be taken back to the Kadikoy ferry station where the tour will end.
