This is the perfect tour for first-timers in Krakow! It is essential and includes all the most important sites of the Old Town and Jewish Quarter.
Your guide will meet you at the office of the tour operator, that is just at a 2 minutes walk distance from the Main Market Square of Krakow. From there you will walk through the Planty Gardens, which were once the city walls, to see the remaining part of them with the majestic Barbican and St. Florian's Gate. Via Florianska St. you will continue the tour back to the Main Market Square, where you will listen to the legends about the St. Mary's Basilica, see the Cloth Hall, St. Adalbert's Church and the Town Hall Tower with the head of Eros Bendato beneath.
Leaving the Main Market Square you will proceed towards the University district, where you will view the buildings of the Jagiellonian University - Collegium Maius (the oldest academic building in Poland) and Collegium Novum (the rector's office) and hear the stories about WWII. You will then follow the footsteps of pope John Paul II, one of the greatest Polish countrymen. Once a student of the Jagiellonian University, then priest in several parishes of Krakow, bishop and archbishop of our city, you will see his place of study, his former home - the Bishop's Palace and his favorite temple - the Franciscan Church. After touring around the Old Town, you will tase a traditional bagle! You guide will bring you to one of the best places.
Continuing the tour, you will view Kazimierz, once a former city, today one of the districts of Krakow. With its interesting heritage it is one of the most attractive places to see in Krakow. Thanks to hundreds of centuries of mixed Polish and Jewish history, Kazimierz is a district where anybody can feel unique. You will see the remarkable Oppidum Judaeorum (Jewish Town), synagogues and cemetery and hear all about them, history as well as legends. From the Jewish Town you will continue to Wolnica Square, a former Market Square of Kazimierz, just a little smaller than the Main Market Square of Krakow and you will also see the one of a kind Corpus Christi Church - a gothic temple with baroque interior. From Kazimierz you will walk back to the Old Town, ending the tour beneath the Wawel Castle, the royal residence of Polish princes and kings since the 10th century.
