What to expect

Kuala Lumpur boasts gleaming skyscrapers, colonial architecture, minaret, and Mogul-style domes, museums, friendly locals, and a host of natural attractions. The country’s largest city is a melting pot of cultures, which together offer a unique experience to its visitors. There are mosques, temples, and churches to reflect the diversity of the city, spectacular futuristic towers and skyscrapers, local markets and street food, and just about anything else you can imagine.

Visit the KL City Gallery which tells the story of Kuala Lumpur’s past, present, and future through miniatures. You can find a collection of paintings and photos of Kuala Lumpur’s history with miniature mock-ups of famous city landmarks. Then, you will stop at the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia houses more than 10,000 artifacts, as well as an exceptional library of Islamic art books. The art objects on display range from the tiniest pieces of jewelry to one of the world’s largest scale models of the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. The aim is to create a collection that is truly representative of the Islamic world. Instead of concentrating on works from the heartlands of Persia and the Middle East, the museum also puts the emphasis on Asia. China and Southeast Asia are especially well represented.

Continue to the King’s Palace, Istana Negara which is the official residence of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, a Malay title usually translated as “Supreme Head”. You can watch the Palace from outside the main gate where the Royal Guards dressed in white Malay as well as red British inspired uniforms, are guarding the main gate on the horse and on foot. The palace is surrounded by a beautiful park, green lawns, and ponds.

Your final stop is the signature landmark of the city, the Petronas Twin Towers which is 88-story high with a staggering height of 1,483 feet built to house the headquarters of Petronas, the national petroleum company of Malaysia. The Petronas Towers were designed to herald the emergence of Malaysia into the global economy and act as an easily identifiable symbol for the fast-growing country. The buildings are most noteworthy for the Sky Bridge that connects them on the 41st and 42nd floors.
