What to expect

Surrounded by sun-drenched vineyards and boasting a history-steeped old town, Evora is one of the most dazzling jewels in Portugal's crown. You'll discover the best of this fascinating town – the Roman temple, the Gothic cathedral, the macabre Bones Chapel and more. And there's also a visit to the 7,000 year old Almendres Cromlech and an olive oil tasting, too.

First up is the Almendres Cromlech, a megalithic circle whose ancient stones are aligned with the solstices – it's the oldest of its kind in Europe. A few stones still have visible carvings. Then it's on to Evora to tour some of its most famous attractions in this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy some free time to explore the town centre and to indulge in a delicious local lunch.

Follow this mix of guided and solo visits to landmarks such as King Manuel's Palace, St Francis's Church – including its chilling Bones Chapel – Giraldo Square and the quaint shopping streets. And there's also a tasting of locally produced olive oils.
