Journey into the heart of Montenegro's best-loved national park with this trip to Skadar Lake. Sit back and soak up the scenery as we drive through the mountains to the biggest body of water in the Balkans and you can expect mountains, marshlands and wildlife-packed shores.
It all begins in the village of Rijeka Crnojevica on the Lake of Skadar. A national park since 1983, it's famed for its birdlife, attracting a whole host of migratory and indigenous species.
Board a boat to cruise around its waters and you'll drift by pretty bays, tiny islands and reed beds that are home to ibis, pelicans and all manner of ducks. After a few hours of bobbing around in the sunshine, you'll arrive back on dry land at Virpazar. This lakeside village is the setting for an optional lunch of fresh fish from the lake, prepared and cooked in the traditional local way. And to finish, you'll have some free time to stroll along the lake's shores or even take a dip.
