Meet at The Surfer Kids Centre, located adjacent to the main parking area at Diaz Beach, Mossel Bay. The tour is divided into two parts, each approximately 2-3 hours separated by a 1-hour lunch break. The first part of the tour consists of a lesson with a professional Surf Instructor, while the second part involves applying your new surfing skills to help The Surfer Kids Instructors coach the children. For your surf lesson you will be given a thorough introduction to surfing, including a safety briefing, by an experienced and qualified surf coach working with The Surfer Kids on a daily basis. This will be followed by equipment selection. You'll be assigned a surfboard and wetsuit and, once suited up, you'll make your way to the water's edge where the final preparations for surfing will take place. You will be accompanied into the water by the surf coach and shown the basics of catching and riding waves. The surf lesson will last approximately 2-3 hours. After the surf lesson you will break for lunch. There is an authentic family owned restaurant nearby where you can enjoy delicious and healthy food. After lunch the children will arrive, accompanied by a community coordinator. Now it's time to apply what you learned during your surf lesson earlier in the day and help our surf coaches. You will help the youngest children catch small waves and make their way back out into the line-up after riding a wave to the beach. This is where you will witness, firsthand the life-changing experience of surfing. You will see the effect that surfing has in the lives of these children, as its happening, and you will be helping implement a program that affects positive change in the lives of marginalized children on a daily basis, giving them a new outlook on life's possibilities. After washing and packing all the surfboards and wetsuits, you'll finish the tour with a cup of warm coffee or tea at The Surfer Kids headquarters.
