What to expect

Encounter your guide at the ticket office of the excavations and, after getting your entrance tickets, begin a guided tour of Herculaneum Ruins!

The ancient city of Herculaneum, already seriously damaged by the 62AD earthquake, was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius on 24 August 79AD. Your guided excursion will last about two hours and the itinerary will include all the public and private buildings that can be visited by the public. Admire the Baths, House of Argos, House of Neptune and Amphitrite, House of the Black Hall, House of the Wooden Partition, House of the Deer, the Gymnasium, the Temple of the Augustals and the area of the Marina. Discover how the particular circumstances that led to the burial of Herculaneum still make it very difficult the excavation but have allowed the preservation of highly perishable materials, such as wood, papyrus and food.
