During your private walking tour you will see the famous Chapel San Severo featuring the statue “Cristo Velato” by Giuseppe Sanmartino. This marble statue is a masterpiece of the 18th century, representing dead Christ covered by a veil. Learn the legend which suggests an alchemist taught the sculptor how to change a real veil into marble.
Next you will visit Piazza St. Gennaro, the oldest square of the city where “Agorà” was situated Greek times. Surrounding the piazza discover the two monumental churches of Naples, San Lorenzo and San Paolo Maggiore. San Lorenzo church was the most elegant church of the city, rebuilt by King Charles D’Angiò and visited by the King’s family and aristocracy. While, San Paolo Maggiore is known for it's cemetery that was discovered during the post-war period.
After strolling through the “San Gregorio Armeno” street, filled with unique nativity scene shops, you will seee the Caravaggio painting in the Pio Monte di Misericordia chapel – an elegant piece titled “The seven works of mercy”. Walk to the baroque cathedral of Saint Gennaro dating back to the 13th century where the blood of the saint patron St. Gennaro is preserved andn learn how It becomes liquid during the so-called “Miracle of St. Gennaro”.
