Whether you are a tourist or a local, a family or a group of friends, this tour is the perfect opportunity to have fun while visiting New York City’s best filming locations.
New York is in fact the most filmed city in the world and you will explore the city’s most recognizable locations while learning some of the TV and film industry's best-kept secrets.
For a limited time, the French audio tour is available for your smartphone for free! After purchase you can download the PocketGuide app and audio tour straight to your iPhone or android phone.
You'll start in Times Square, heart of the city and set of many scenes: from Glee's version of I Love New York/New York, New York in the Season two finale, to Friends with Benefits and Vanilla Sky. You'll also get to see the bar where Michael Keaton had his post performance drink in Birdman.
The tour will move on to Columbus Circle, home to the Time Warner Center, Trump International, and some of the most expensive real estate in America. It's also a place seen in various movings including Tower Heist, Enchanted, and Ghostbusters.
Central Park is certainly an iconic place, made famous by the many scenes that were shot here. You'll see them all starting from The Plaza Hotel, as seen in films such as American Hustle, Bride Wars, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, and Crocodile Dundee. The Plaza’s Oak Room Bar set the stage Hitchcock’s North by Northwest and a number of Woody Allen films.
Moving on to the Upper East Side, you'll catch a glimpse of places from your favorite sitcoms. There's Barney's, the store where Elaine from Seinfeld buys a dress - and later realizes it looks awful on her. You'll also see the Pierre Hotel where Monica and Chandler get married on Friends.
Cruising down Fifth Avenue, you'll pass FAO Schwarz, famous for its role in BIG, and the class Tiffany & Co., as seen in Breakfast at Tiffany's, Glee, and New Years Eve. You'll also pass another Trump Tower, but you might recognize it better as the headquarters for Wayne Enterprises in The Dark Knight. The tour will move on past the St. Regis Hotel, as seen in The Devil Wears Prada, Taxi Driver, and Miss Congeniality. You won't miss Rockefeller Center, home to NBC Studios where The Tonight Show, Saturday Night Live, The Today Show, and countless other TV shows and movies are made. Most recently Marvel’s Daredevil featured a tense scene between Fisk and Madame Gao at the same rooftop garden Spider-Man swings onto with Mary Jane in Spider-Man. You'll see the New York Public Library, a filming location for Ghostbusters, Ted 2, 13 Going 30, and Sex and The City: The Movie. You'll also be able to catch a glimpse of the Empire State Building, featured in King Kong, Sleepless in Seattle, and An Affair to Remember.
The tour will continue through the Flatiron District with the Flatiron Building, which you’ll recognize from Spider-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Across the street is Madison Square Park, where Ron Burgundy fights the ultimate battle of the news teams in Anchorman 2. You may also recognize this park from I am Legend, The Adjustment Bureau, and Something Borrowed.
The first stop on the tour is one of New York’s most famous landmarks, Washington Square Park. It’s here where Glee, The Mindy Project, Don Jon, Blue Bloods, and countless other movies and TV shows are filmed. Around the corner you can spot the Comedy Cellar where Louie performs in Louie and the McDonald’s where Julian demands breakfast in Big Daddy.
And the best is yet to come with a visit to Tribeca, with the Ghostbusters’ Firehouse, and then Greenwich Village, the Meatpacking District, Chelsea as well as Midtown, where you will see locations from many of the best movies of the last years: from the apartment building of I am Legend to Macy’s in Herald Square, used in holiday favorites Miracle on 34th Street and Elf, passing by the Time-Life Building, used in Mad Men as the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce office.
The tour ends at McGee’s Pub, the inspiration for MacLaren's Pub in How I Met Your Mother, where you’ll have the opportunity to take photos, grab a drink, or dine at the spot that inspired the “bromance” between Barney, Ted, and Marshall.
