Visit the ancient city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovski, located a 2-hour drive from Odessa, on a private guided tour. The town of Bilhorod is the successor to the ancient, 2,5-thousand-year old Greek colony of Tyra. Through its long history, it had many names but all of them meant the same: “The White Town”.
Akkerman fortress, built between the 12th and the 18th centuries, is a real gem of this cozy town. The Citadel dates back to the times of Genovese traders, who owned Akkerman between 1300 and 1400, but failed to hold the fortress to the powerful Turkish armies. The fortress is divided into two parts: an Inner Court with the Genovese Citadel and an Outer Court with the ruins of a Turkish minaret. Tournaments and festivals often still take place there. From the walls, you can see the excavations of the ancient Greek colony of Tyra. You will walk along the defensive walls, which are 12 m high and 5 m wide, and admire the Dniester estuary through the loopholes.
On this comprehensive tour, you will explore the region of Odessa, learn many amazing facts about its history and breathe some fresh southern air with the notes of medieval romance. At the end of the tour, you will relax on your way back to Odessa.
