Misty waters, moss-covered rocks and great mountain views – the Secret Lagoon is the ultimate Icelandic experience. Less crowded and less touristy, Iceland's oldest natural hot spring pool is as enticing a dip as you'll ever take. This excursion takes you to the Golden Circle hamlet of Fludir for a 90-minute wallow in the 38-40° water – utter bliss.
After pick-up, you'll head eastwards through wild countryside towards the cluster of houses that is Fludir. Its top attraction is the Secret Lagoon – or Gamla Laugin – which has been soothing bathers for more than 125 years. Considered by many to be Iceland's ‘best-kept secret' and its ‘best lagoon', it has a 95% positive rating on TripAdvisor.
One of the best moments is the geyser that spouts every five minutes or so, spewing water and a lot of steam over the pool. It's incredibly atmospheric. What's more, a towel is provided and there are modern shower facilities. All in all, a genuine, natural Icelandic experience.
