After a very early-morning pick-up, your adventure will begin with a 40-minute ferry ride across an urban fjord. With a hot cup of coffee in hand, you’ll have ample time to wake up while viewing Stavanger’s waterfront from the water. Once ashore, your guide will transport you further to the base of the hiking trail. After a short briefing, you’ll embark on your journey to Preikestolen.
You’ll begin your outdoor adventure in darkness, hiking with headlamps on trails that have recently been upgraded by Nepalese Sherpas. Hiking in the hushed silence of the night is in itself an experience. Though animals are shy around people, it’s a certainty that they’ll be awake and alert, observing you from behind the old trees and scattered boulders that surround the trail. While the wildlife watches, your guide will lead you up through the shifting terrain, which includes bogs, forests, and glacier-scoured mountains.
After approximately 2.5 hours of hiking, you’ll reach the Preikestolen plateau just before sunrise. After finding yourself a comfortable place to relax, you’ll watch as the first beams of sunlight climb over the horizon and illuminate the Lysefjord’s steep mountain walls. While relaxing, you’ll have ample time to take photos and enjoy a warm beverage and snack atop Preikestolen. Long before the first tourist-packed busses arrive from Stavanger, you’ll be on your way back down the trail to conclude your unique hiking adventure with a well-deserved breakfast/lunch at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge.
