What to expect
Spend two days in the beautiful countryside town of Villapinzón and discover a wide array of cherished local traditions. After arriving in town, enjoy a quick breakfast before embarking on a breathtaking nature walk. First, wander around the Páramo Guacheneque, a unique mountainous biome known as an evolutionary hotspot teeming with wildlife. Witness the source of the mighty Bogota River that flows across Colombia. Then, help seed the land with native plants that support the conservation of the ecosystem. After a quick stop for a light brunch, visit the spectacular Bear and Otter Waterfalls and enjoy a full lunch in the cozy home of a local woman. After some more exploring, return to Villapinzón just in time for dinner. On the second day, travel to Vereda la Merced village, home to farming and artisan women and their families. Spend the morning learning everything about weaving: from how to wash and spin the wool to the final dyeing process. Later, participate in hands-on helping experiences with the women. Milk cows, tend to potatoes and other crops, learn to make cheese, and help cook arepas, delicious Colombian corn patties used to make sandwiches. After a final meal with the women, say goodbye and head back to Bogota. This experience is perfect for getting a glimpse into a special community and appeals to anyone interested in world culture or agricultural societies.
