After the guide picks you up from Wellington, make your way up the Hutt Valley to the first stop at the Remutaka mountain range summit, 555 meters above sea level where we view the Remutaka Crossing monument commemorating 60,000 New Zealand troops who made the crossing from the military camp in Featherston to the Port of Wellington between 1915 and 1918. From the summit, it’s a 10-minute drive down to the South Wairarapa town of Featherston, home of C’est Cheese where you will taste magnificent local cheeses (Remutaka Pass cheeses are made on site) along with international cheeses from Owner/Cheese Maker Paul Broughton. Head further north to the quaint town of Greytown where you will visit Greytown Honey, slip into your own Bee Keepers suit and inspect a live beehive with the Bee Keeper followed by a guided tour of the honey factory and tastings.
A short drive southeast to the Pinot Noir capital of the North Island – Martinborough where you'll have tastings and lunch at a winery followed by tastings at one further winery. Your selected wineries are a choice of Tiwaiwaka Wines, Grava, Alexander Vineyard, Haythornthwaite Winery, Poppies Martinborough, Palliser Estate, Moy Hall, Coney Wines, and Tirohana Estate.
At one of the wineries, you'll also get an opportunity to have an in-depth chat with the winemaker/owner. Once your palate needs a change you head off to Olivo for Extra Virgin Olive Oil tastings where you will sample a wide range of fabulous oils, many infused with a wide array of flavors. You also have a wander through the olive grove with the Olive Oil maker and gain an in-depth understanding of what it takes to grow Olives and produce outstanding Olive Oil. Upon completing the Olive Oil tastings we head back into Martinborough to visit the only Craft Brewery in the township for a drink of your choice. If Craft Beer is not your thing you can have a wander around this lovely village which has a variety of boutique gifts and clothing shops.
Depart for Wellington around 3 pm getting back to your drop-off location around 4:30 pm.
