Meet your expert guide in your hotel lobby at 8.00am to start an exceptional day exploring the 400 year old heritage of Amritsar. Walk through the local market and learn from your guide the historic significance of these serpentine lanes connecting the city with history.
Stop for a gastronomic break at a local restaurant and devour the flavors of Amritsari Kulcha (hot potato bread) and chilled Punjabi Lassi (sweetened yogurt). Walking past the old charm of the city, we will reach Harmandir Sahib, famously known as the Golden Temple at 9.00am. Revered as the most sacred place for Sikhs in the world, the Golden Temple is Amritsar’s soul around which the whole city flourishes. Visit the Golden Temple Museum, showcasing the rich history of Sikhism and its establishment in India. Let your local guide narrate the legend behind the rise of this heroic religion.
Walk to the hall of Langar (mass-dinner) where you will witness service and compassion at its best. The temple kitchen serves food to all the devotees and visitors non-stop for 12 hours, feeding over 100,000 people in a day. Visit the mega kitchen and learn from the guide how the contribution and donation is put entirely to the service of humanity.
From here, proceed to the legendary site of Jalliawala Bagh, an exact spot where thousands of innocent Sikh people were killed on the orders of General Reginald Dyer in 1919 on the day of a major Sikh festival in Baisakhi.
The wall with bullet marks is still standing, screaming out its history. Let your guide explain to you about the massacre and how this event changed the course of history. After soaking in so much history, board a cycle-rickshaw to cross through the bustle of Amritsari Bazaars and return to the starting point.
