Experience the beautiful acoustics as hundreds of burning candles form an enchanting backdrop for the candlelight concert series. The schedule is as follows:

Thursday 17 January at 7.30pm: Trio C tot de Derde

Trio C tot de Derde play klezmer in the broadest sense of the word, with the musicians invoking Balkan music, gypsy, jazz and classical music. Their new programme Klez-X! (pronounced: classics) focuses on new and old classics of the genre.

Thursday 28 February at 7.30pm: Rembrandt Frerichs Trio & David Kweksilber

The Rembrandt Frerichs Trio has been touring the Netherlands and abroad for years, combining classical music, jazz and music from the Middle East. David Kweksilber accompanies the Trio perfectly, as he too effortlessly switches between classical and jazz.

Thursday 28 March at 8.00pm: Carolyn Enger

The American pianist is known for her thoughtful, sensitive and expressive playing. Her latest programme is called Mischlinge Exposé, which contains music by composers who were labelled half-Jews by the Nazi regime, such as her own father.

Thursday 11 April at 8.00pm: Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet

In 2018, Yuri Honing won an Edison in the category "Jazz National". ‘Unique in every possible way and of the highest level,' the jury concluded. Along with his acoustic quartet, Yuri will be coming to the Portuguese Synagogue on the 11th of April.

Thursday 17 June at 8.00pm: Brisk

Brisk presents songs dating from the Middle Ages and Renaissance Era from the Iberian Peninsula played on 40 recorders in all shapes and sizes. The Amsterdam quartet is 'the final blow to the goody-goody image of the recorder'.

Thursday 15 August at 8.00pm: Grachtenfestival

During the annual Grachtenfestival, concerts take place at special locations all over Amsterdam. The Portuguese Synagogue is always one of the highlights. The artist will be announced later.

Thursday 31 October at 7.30pm: Noa Wildschut

Despite her age, this Dutch violinist (18) has already gained a considerable reputation in the Netherlands and abroad. The NRC Handelsblad praised her great tone and personality, 'and, above all: a boundless musicality'.

Thursday 28 November at 7.30pm: Lumaka

Lumaka is one of the most active chamber music ensembles in the Netherlands, with a surprising line-up of harp, flute and strings. The programme includes late-Romantic and impressionistic music by, among others, a number of Jewish-Dutch composers.
