What to expect

We'll go 180m underground to see the astonishing Zipaquirá’s Salt Cathedral, a majestic cathedral built inside of the largest salt-rock deposit on earth. You'll see how the Catholic symbology and contemporary engineering converged in the construction of this gigantic temple.

Using materials from this former salt mine and lighting effects, sculptors created innovative interpretations of the Catholic Via Crucis that you'll be able to see throughout the cathedral. You'll learn about the creative process and the symbology behind the sculptures. You'll also see salt formations and the vestiges of previous salt mining activity.

Then, you'll head to the colonial village of Zipaquirá, famous for its various buildings that were declared national monuments. You'll walk around the main square, and have time to taste the delicious baked goods of the region.
