Humayun’s wife built the tomb as a tribute to him, and its stupendous design is believed to have influenced Shah Jahan to build the Taj Mahal on similar lines. Humayun's Tomb's huge red sandstone structure of Humayun’s Tomb started in 1564 – it is situated atop a large plinth with 56 cells amidst meticulously maintained gardens, complete with gushing fountains and manicured flower beds. Besides the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb, you will also see other astounding sights such as Isa Khan’s Tomb, the mysterious Bu Halima’s Garden Complex and Afsarwala tomb and mosque.

It was originally built by the Mughals and later turned into a nursery by the British to grow experimental plants. It also has the distinction of being Delhi’s first arboretum with 300 types of trees. With tranquil lakes, fountains and a Bonsai House, Sunder Nursery is a deeply soothing place.
