You'll depart from your hotel towards your first stop, the Ana Kai Tangata Cave, where you'll admire the stylized paintings of birds in one of its walls, representing the Manutara (sea swallows) and whose precious egg was the center of the annual birdman competition of the Rapa Nui cult's mythology.
Later, you'll head to the Rapa Nui National Park, where you'll visit Ahu Vinapu, an archaeological site which is characterized by its large 'balsat' tiles made to fit carefully in a similar way to Inca constructions of Cuzco. The next stop will be Rano Kau, a dormant volcano where you'll find a lake with small islands of reeds and interesting endemic biodiversity. Here you'll find the Orongo ceremonial village, where the ceremony of the birdman competition was performed, this rite was practiced by the 'birdman cult' in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Birdman was appointed by the king and would be the spiritual and political leader during a period of one year. The sacred character is represented as a human shrunken body with a large beak and is sculpted in many engraved stones.
After a day full of interesting learnings and dramatic sights, you'll return to your hotel on Easter Island.
