Spend a day discovering one of the most beautiful medieval Italian towns and two local delicacies directly from the producers: saffron and Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the first wine to obtain the DOCG designation in Italy.
San Gimignano was founded by the Etruscans on the top of a hill dominating the upper Val d'Elsa, probably chosen for strategic purposes. This lovely town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also called Manhattan of the Middle Ages because of its incredible skyline.
San Gimignano was located right along the ancient pilgrim route Via Francigena. In the Middle Ages, its position between Pisa and Siena was strategic for saffron production and trade, which contributed to the city's great economic development.
Admire this perfectly preserved medieval town and the surrounding hills covered by Vernaccia vineyards. After the tour, you will reach a small family-run winery and taste delicious local wines including the famous Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG, accompanied by a Tuscan lunch based on local products, first of all, finest quality saffron.
