What to expect

Discover top attractions including Leenane Village and Kylemore Abbey on this day trip to Connemara from Galway. Travel to Connemara as your guide sheds light on the region’s rich heritage and spectacular natural scenery. Take in fine views over the Twelve Pins mountain range and enjoy free time to explore Leenane Village at your leisure. Visit attractive landmarks such as Killary Fjord and Kylemore Abbey, and gain insight into Ireland’s heritage. Stop in the Irish-speaking village of Spiddal and perhaps try chatting to the locals, then head back to Galway.

Departing from Galway you will drive through the countryside toward Connemara, a region which is famed for its natural beauty and landscapes. Your expert guide will share their knowledge of the history of the region and once you've arrived you'll have the opportunity to explore the landmarks independently. You'll discover rivers and lakes that flow off The Twelve Pins Mountain Range which naturally shape this region. Film-lovers will spot locations from Hollywood blockbusters in this small mountain-side town which is full of Irish charm.

Next you'll head to Killary Fjord, Ireland’s only fjord which serves as the natural border between the counties of Galway and Mayo. Your tour will then move onto Kylemore Abbey, which is situated on a lake in the midst of the mountains. Originally built in the 19th century by Mitchell Henry, the abbey was as a gift to his wife, Margaret. You can explore the building which is now owned and run by Benedictine nuns, the miniature Gothic Church and the award-winning Victorian Walled Gardens (own expense).

The final stop will be An Spidéal, a charming Gaeltacht, Irish Speaking, village home to many houses with traditionally thatched roofs, with scenic coastlines and beautiful beaches. Your tour will conclude with a drop off back in Galway.
