What to expect

Once a favourite getaway for the rich and noble, Hua Hin is a seaside city with more than palm-fringed beaches. There's history, heritage and a lively ambience. You'll visit the Mrigadayavan Palace and the Hua Hin railway station before heading to the nearby fishing village of Khao Takiab for afternoon tea.

First up is Mrigadayavan Palace – ‘the Palace of Love and Hope'. It was built in the 1920s as a summer residence for King Rama VI. He used its 16 buildings just twice before dying. It feels like you're back in his reign as you stroll through its airy rooms and arcades. Next, head to the temple-like Hua Hin railway station. Most of the original décor is intact and there's a royal waiting room.

Afterward, experience the scents and sights of a real Thai fishing village as we reach Khao Takiab – keep an eye out for the golden Buddha overlooking the beach. Before you sit down for afternoon tea, you'll visit the temple, where a troop of monkeys hangs out looking for a banana or two.
