Birthplace of the Olympic Games, this day trip to Olympia is a real winner. With a fully guided tour, lunch and free time to explore, you'll discover all the glory of ancient Greece.
First, we'll make the short hop by boat to Kyllini. Sailing between the islands of the Ionian Sea is an adventure in itself. Passing misty islets, dotted with whitewashed buildings, you can picture the first Olympians making the same journey. From here you'll head on to the site by coach. Your expert guide will then take you on a tour of the original stadium – including the racetrack and finish line – as well as the religious monuments the place is packed with. The stand-out treasures are the Temple of Hera – where the Olympic torch ceremony is held before every tournament – and the Temple of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
You'll then hit the Archaeological Museum where you'll marvel at its impressive collection of finely-carved statuettes, busts and bronze armour. After lunch, you'll round things off with free time to explore the modern village of Olympia.
