Enjoy a full-day excursion that takes you to the Giraffe Center and the Karen Blixen Museum. Your tour starts heading to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust situated on the outskirts of Nairobi. The Sanctuary is run by Angela Sheldrick and is set on the grounds of her late mother’s, Dame Daphne Sheldrick’s house. Here you will see the orphaned animals and meet the people who handle and care for these animals.
Drive to the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden for lunch. The hereby Historic Swedo House was the original hunting lodge/farmhouse which was built around 1906. It is located approximately a half-mile from the Karen Blixen museum. The historic Grogan/MacMillan Manor House was moved brick by brick from downtown Nairobi to the Coffee Garden in 2008 to save it from destruction. It is the site of the original farmhouse of the property, which now is near the Karen Blixen Museum. The Coffee Garden sits on 5 ½ acres of land with large hundred-year-old trees and a beautiful garden with hundreds of different varieties of blooming flowers, and a large population of birds.
Following lunch, head to the Karen Blixen Museum. Once owned by Danish Author Karen and her Swedish husband Baron Bror, and based at the foot of the Ngong Hills, the farmhouse gained international fame with the release of the movie ‘Out of Africa’ an Oscar-winning film.
End your tour with a visit to the Giraffe Centre where the endangered Rothschild giraffe lives in peace. Children will particularly enjoy the elevated viewing platform. You will be back at your hotel in the late afternoon.
