What to expect

Temples and mozzarella might not work as pizza toppings but for a cultural daytrip, they're a perfect match. You'll head south to Paestum, a small village with a big reputation, to explore its three well-preserved Greek temples and to visit a mozzarella farm.

First up is a journey back in time to the ancient Greek city of Paestum. Amid its ruins stand three colossal temples – those of Hera, Athena and Neptune. The Second Temple of Hera is in remarkably good nick, considering it's about 2,500 years old. There's also a great museum on site, where you'll discover finds excavated from the site and learn about life in ancient Paestum.

We'll then drop into the mozzarella farm – the Campania region is the heartland of buffalo mozzarella. Here, you'll learn how water buffalo are milked, before a chance to try real fresh mozzarella made by the experts. You'll have free time for lunch - bring your own or check out the farm's bistro – before heading back to your hotel in the afternoon.

This full day tour takes you to explore the seaside town of Sant'Angelo. And once you arrive, you'll get stuck in with a guided walk and an exclusive cooking class in the kitchens of the Apollon Club. And what sets this place apart is the fact they use fumaroles – hot steam from underground – to cook the dishes you'll prepare for lunch, which include fresh pasta and a typical fish dish accompanied by wine. Afterwards, relax in the complex of thermal pools that overlook Fumarole Bay before it's time to hop on an electric golf buggy that'll transfer you through the centre to where the bus will be waiting.
