What to expect
The Parc des Félins is a wildlife observation park housing over 175 animals on the magnificent woodland estate of La Fortelle, 30 miles outside Paris. All born in captivity, the animals raised here vary from the familiar East African lion to the exotic and endangered Pallas' cat. Stroll along one of 5 walking paths and discover the park by foot or climb aboard the Trans'Félins and explore this animal haven by train. The Parc des Félins is home to 30 different species and subspecies of felines, 5 species of lemurs, and a range of goats and farm animals. No matter what time of year you visit the park, there are plenty of things to see! SpringA pleasant time to visit the park as nature is in bloom again! Plants grow, flowers appear, birds sing overhead, and the cats begin their mating season. It's also the time for the cats to start basking in the sun and losing their winter fur. An interesting transition period in more ways than one. It is recommended that you arrive either when the park opens or towards the end of the day in order to see the animals in activity.SummerSummer is also a great time to visit the park. The cubs are perfecting their skills, spending lots of time climbing trees and playing. Visitors should be aware, however, that when the weather gets warm, the animals will hide to take shelter from the sun, so it's best to visit the park early in the morning or after 3pm. Other activities are available to liven up your afternoon such as the lemurs' feeding time, the Trans'Félins train, or the 4D cinema. For the bravest among you, remember that the park opens at 6 am on some days.WinterSee the incredible winter fur of the snow leopards, lynx, Siberian tigers, and Scottish wildcats! Contrary to popular belief, it's very easy to spot the animals in winter, even the lions and leopards, as there are no leaves on the trees nor vegetation on the ground. The animals don't suffer from the cold as they eat twice as much as in summer to make up their stocks of fat and thick fur. The smaller cats and lemurs stay indoors.FallMany regulars at the Parc des Félins say this is their favorite time of year to visit the park. The cooler temperatures have a positive effect on the animals' behavior and cause them to be more active. They are more easily seen during this season than in summer, as the new cubs are more confident and spend a lot of time playing and exploring. It's THE best time of year to see the cubs. You will also observe the animals preparing for winter by eating more to build up their winter fur.
