Temporary exhibitions

CHAGALL, LISSITZKY, MALEVITCH. L'avant-garde russe à Vitebsk (1918-1922)
28 March 2018 - 16 July 2018
The Pompidou Center's exhibition dedicated to the Russian avant-garde, from 1918 to 1922, takes the work of three of its emblematic figures: Marc Chagall, El Lissitzky, Kasimir Malevich. It also presents the work of teachers and students of the Vitebsk School, created in 1918 by Chagall. Through an exclusive collection of 250 works and documents, this event illuminates for the first time the post-revolutionary years when, far from the Russian metropolises, the history of art is written in Vitebsk.

JEAN-JACQUES LEBEL. L'Outrepasseur
30 May 2018 - 3 September 2018

The new exhibition dedicated to Jean-Jacques Lebel features 50-odd works and numerous archive documents. In the 1950s, Jean-Jacques Lebel ("the painter of the cross-over", according to his friend Félix Guattari) began to develop an unclassifiable technique. Simultaneously artist, activist, writer, publisher, creator of happenings and organiser of events, he was one of France's most important "go-betweens" in the second half of the 20th century.

ROEE ROSEN. Histoires dans la pénombre
27 June 2018 - 29 October 2018

This two-part project reveals the multifaceted work of artist, writer and film director Roee Rosen (Rehovot, 1963). The exhibition "Histoires dans la pénombre" presents two major works – The Blind Merchant (1989-1991), an alternative version of Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice told by a blind usurer and Vladimir’s Night (2011-2014), a political treatise on the dangers of fetishising an object – accompanied by a more recent film, The Dust Channel (2016), an operetta on purification in all its forms. A retrospective of his films entitled "Sweet Sweat" also highlights the irony, or rather agility of Roee Rosen's pieces on History, transforming fiction into a polemic space for current political questions.
