What to expect
Go off the beaten path in Paramis, near Puno, and discover the daily life and traditions of locals in these high-altitude, lakeside communities.Day 1Transfer from Juliaca airport or Juliaca/Puno's bus terminals to Paramis. The private bus service will comfortably transport you to Paramis in just over an hour. Your arrival will be welcomed with traditional bouquets and wreaths made of kantuta, the national flower of Peru. Enjoy a typical dinner and spend your first night with the host family in their home.Day 2Wake up to a breakfast with the family to fuel yourself for a day in the daily life of locals. Take part in the small-scale fishing in the sacred Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, and learn traditional fishing techniques. Enjoy lunch with your host family before learning about the customary use of medicinal plants in Peruvian culture. Help prepare and learn how to make cookies with organic quinoa. Dinner and overnight accommodation in the host family's home.Day 3After breakfast, depart for the island of Taquile by motor boat. Meet the Huayllano community of the island before an introduction to their customs and traditions by a local guide. Witness a traditional dance and the weaving of artisanal products. After lunch, head by boat to the floating island of Uros Titino, far off the normal tourist path. On Uros Titino, you will gain an understanding of their agricultural traditions, and enjoy a ride on a raft around the islands. Your visit ends with a one and a half hour boat ride back to the city of Puno, and a bus back to your hotel or destination of choice.
