This is a fantastic opportunity for any visitor looking to unravel the stunning mysteries of Silfra Fissure in a small group and under the guidance of a highly experienced PADI snorkelling guide.
Situated in the picturesque UNESCO World Heritage site, Þingvellir National Park, Silfra is famed as Iceland’s number one dive and snorkelling location. Your tour will begin at the meeting point, Silfra visitors’ car park, where you will meet your friendly and knowledgeable guide.
Your guide will proceed to brief you on Silfra’s origins, take you through the basics of snorkelling and teach you how to adorn your equipment. They’ll also point out the moment you can touch the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates at the same time, as well as other points of interest en route.
You will be provided with a 9mm Yamamoto full-body Wetsuit, keeping you cosy from the 2-4°Celsius (35-39°Fahrenheit) water temperature, as well as a mask, snorkel, fins and neoprene hoods and gloves. Your Wetsuit will keep you buoyant in the water, allowing you to float along with Silfra’s light current in peace and tranquillity.
Visibility at Silfra Fissure will often exceed 100 metres, allowing you full scope over this dramatic canyon’s fascinating rock formations, hidden caves and luminous “Troll Hair” algae.
If you partake during the summer, you will be privy to the glorious rays of the Midnight Sun as they illuminate the scene around you; if you’re snorkelling during the winter, you will have the unique chance to surface in a snow-laded paradise.
Upon exiting the water, you'll be invited to warm up with cookies and some delicious and traditional Icelandic hot chocolate.
