Visit the Whales of Iceland exhibition and learn all there is to know about these incredible animals. Stand eye to eye with 23 life-size models of different whale species like a blue whale, sperm whale and the North Atlantic right whale. Experience underwater life through sounds, lights and touch. For a full experience you can follow the audio guide which is available in 12 languages or follow the free guided tour in English held twice a day. Finish your visit to the museum at the Fin Whale Room where you can watch the informative Sonic Sea film showing at 11.00am and 3.00pm.
After you received all the information about the amazing whales you will join a whale watching tour which departs just a five-minute walk from the museum in the old harbor. During the summer months, you have the option to choose between two different boat tours. The whale watching classic a 3-hours tour and the whale watching express which takes 2-hours. You can decide which tour you want on the day itself before boarding the ship. Put on your thermal overalls and look out for humpback whales, minke whales, white-beaked dolphins and harbor porpoises on the drive to Faxaflói Bay. These four animals are the most commonly spotted mammals in the bay. The English-speaking expert guide on board of the ship will tell you more about the different marine life in the area.
