Benito Mussolini had chosen this area to open the 1942 World's Fair that would celebrate twenty years of fascism in Italy. For this reason, the area was reorganized and redesigned following the Roman Imperial town planning and the rationalist style. The celebration never took place because of the outbreak of the World War and EUR turned in a residential and business district.
