Move over ancient Greece, Sicily's Greek ruins are just as impressive, and this day trip takes you to the best of them. You'll visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites – the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina, famed for its majestic mosaics.
After an early start, you'll arrive in Agrigento mid-morning to the Valley of the Temples. Although it's called a valley, the seven temples sit high on a ridge known as the Sacred Way. Your guide will give you the lowdown on the site's landmarks and religious monuments. The Concordia Temple is the best preserved of them all while the Temple of Zeus was the largest Greek shrine ever constructed.
After free time for lunch, you'll spend the afternoon in the Villa Romana del Casale in Piazza Armerina. Also UNESCO-listed, this luxury villa houses the largest and most complex collection of Roman mosaics in the world.
